Sue O’Donnell. 11.08.20
Time spent at the sea,
Is time well spent relaxedly,
Feeding body, soul and spirit
With welcome refreshment.
Lying or sitting comfortably on golden sand,
Swimming in the sun warmed sea,
Gazing across the harbour view,
The open vista from cliff top, too,
No timetable restricting me.
No deadlines to meet, all in a hurry.
I steal away from being relentlessly busy.
I find a place to just be,
The Lord God replenishing me.
No plans except to be free.
No restrictions, commitments, nor any worry.
Time just to be me, but more importantly,
Time to pray and ask my Father
Who it is He wants me to become
As His child, adopted by the Lord Jesus,
Touched by the Holy Spirit,
So becoming a part of His worldwide family.
What then should this holiday do for me?
What will the sheer delight of time away,
More time therefore to pray and offer thanks,
What will the result be, I wonder?
I will wait expectantly, hopefully!
I know life is made beautiful by the Spirit with us,
The all loving, life enhancing Spirit of our Father and Jesus.
Would I rather stay here permanently?
No! A holiday with time away
Is for relaxation, refreshment and replenishment,
Meant to serve a grater purpose.
I should return home having deepened and strengthened
My friendship with the Word of life, the Lord Jesus,
He who as gift of God, brings life’s fullness to us.
I will try and make the most of this.
Thank You for my holiday, extra time to relax and pray.
May I return home being more devoted to the Lord Jesus,
And more readily seeking the life giving Spirit,
Even when I am busy, for my holiday will, I hope,
Have taught me this: to pray everyday in greater earnest,
To resource the Spirit of Jesus, He who is our holiness.
What then I do with this, must depend upon further prayer.
Prayer, the blessing of time, to share with Jesus uninterruptedly,
Not worrying about being busy, completing the list of chores.
Prayer is more, much more important than targets gained or missed.
For to pray is to be kissed by the very Word of life Himself.
The One we know of and call ‘Lord Jesus’,
God with us, by the Spirit, in a way we recognise
As we pray with love, to access true love from above,
Inviting the Lord of love to walk and talk with us.
Thank You for the holiday which gifts time,
A different, really worthwhile focus as we lift our hearts to Jesus.
Thank You dearest Father, that Your immense love for us is rooted in the Lord Jesus and when we prayerfully seek Him, asking the Holy Spirit to impact upon our spiritual awareness, we are very much rewarded indeed. For Jesus, Your Word of love, the love You offer us, draws us ever deeper prayer by prayer into the power of holy love the Holy Spirit develops. Our life is fed and nourished by prayer. Thank You so much. Amen.
